Lesbians Incorporated provides financial backing to lesbians and lesbian-friendly groups in Australia. This post aims to shine a light on our past grant recipients and share their success stories. All current grant applications are closed and recipients of round 2 grants will be announced in November 2019.
Day For Night as part of Performance Space received a grant from Lesbians Incorporated in 2019. Performance Space is Australia’s leading organisation for the development and presentation of experimental art. The organisation has placed artists at the centre of everything we do for over 35 years and has championed the work of LGBTQIA+ artists from diverse backgrounds and artistic perspectives. Performance Space prides itself on being a supportive and safe space for queer artists to come together, share ideas, push boundaries and celebrate difference.
The grant recieved from Lesbians Incorporated will support emerging lesbian sound artist Nina Buchanan to develop and present her new work Higher at Day for Night presented by Performance Space. This entrancing sound work creates a deeply immersive and emotive sound environment for queer existence, healing and collective celebration.
Performance Space plays a unique role in the Australian arts ecology by nurturing works at each stage in a project’s life cycle. Throughout the year Performance Space delivers a range of development, residency and mentorship programs that support artists to extend their practice, test new ways of working and develop new works.
Now in its sixth year, Day for Night is a fierce collision of queer art and party culture presented across twelve hours by Performance Space. Bringing together Australia’s finest queer artists, performers, DJs, musicians, dancers and lovers, Day for Night is a glorious fusion of club culture, contemporary art and new performance.
