Ten Forty Matrix received a grant from Lesbians Incorporated in round two of 2019, the funds went towards their recreational activities project “Friends of Dorothy” Camp.
“Friends of Dorothy” Camp is a weekend camp at Berry Sport and Recreational Centre for lesbians over 40. It was an organised, comprehensive recreational program run by qualified leaders which included; kayaking, indoor wall climbing, archery and activities around the camp fire. All of these activities are aimed at building confidence and self esteem.
Held in March of 2020 they had many women wanting to be part of this camp and 66 registered from metropolitan and regional NSW with more still on a waiting list. The final number was 57 participants as some withdrew due to unforeseen circumstances. Others withdrew or were persuaded by our volunteer organisers not to attend because they had cold symptoms amid emerging fears concerning Covid-19.
Ten Forty Matrix structured participants’ camp fees so that cost was not a barrier to attending. Those attending were aged in their forties to their eighties and came from diverse backgrounds. Ten Forty Matrix efforts to connect women from all over the state resulted in 39% of attendees coming from regional and outer metropolitan NSW.
