GRAI (GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc) – Perth based organisation that received a grant from Lesbians Incorporated in round one of 2020. This grant was awarded to help support the production of Barn Dance 2020.
Barn Dance 2020 is a community initiative to strengthen community bonds within LGBTI people in Perth. The event will build on the enormously successful inaugural Barn Dance, held at City Farm in August 2019. Despite being a new idea to Perth, it clearly captured people’s imaginations, and tickets sold out 5 weeks prior to the event. This year will be on August 29, 2020 and will be hosted by Miss Barbie Q and featuring special guests and surprise performances, this will be an entertaining night not to be missed. Barn Dance is being held at Perth City Farm and when you need a break from shaking it all about and clicking the shears, there is plenty of space to grab a bite to eat, drink and have a chat. More Information on their Facebook page.
The huge popularity of last year’s event clearly testified to an unmet need for people to come together in a safe, community-driven social setting and reconnect with their LGBTI community. One of the strengths of the event was that all facets of our community were represented, bringing together many different LGBTI groups and also demonstrating a strong intergenerational element. The community feedback following the 2019 Barn Dance has been overwhelmingly positive and people have commented on how this has been one of the best events Perth in the past decade.
