The Women Loving Women Canon;
Traditionally the idea of literary canons/ “classics” has been to elevate certain writers and their work to the exclusion of others. For this panel we ask our writers to imagine what would a queer women’s canon would like. What are the classics/ Who are the great queer women writers etc. What purpose would building a canon such as this have for the community and more importantly what don’t we want?
Reading Event – Bring Back the Lesbian; A Queer Fanfic event;
All too often queer female characters have been killed off in wider media as shown through the infamous Bury Your Gays trope. But this time we’re saving them. We challenge our readers to choose their favourite fictional dead lesbian and tell us how they would keep them alive.
The Young Writers Festival received a grant in round one 2023 to support their event and giving lesbians a louder voice within the community.
