LInc Recipient Spotlight: Our recipients for round one 2022 represent a diverse group of the LGBTIQ+ community in Australia. These recipients demonstrate how the LGBTIQ+ Community grows and flourishes with visibility and support.

Pride Round (South Coast women’s soccer)

Pride Round for South Coast women’s soccer will be at Mudgeeraba Soccer Club in Queensland. The pride round will see all three women’s sides will play at home at Sidd Bigg Park, on Monday night June 6, 2022. The Wallabies will play teams from across the Gold Coast and northern NSW.

All participating teams will wear rainbow socks, rainbow match balls will be used, the field corner flags will be rainbow, and the sideline referees will wave rainbow flags. Pride trophies and best player medallions will also be awarded.

In conjunction with the Mudgeeraba Pride Round, Football Queensland and the club will deliver an LGBTI+ education session to all participating and non-participating teams in the lead-up to Pride Round. On the Saturday of the week of Pride Round, a Mardi Gras party will be held at the clubroom, involving all participating teams.

Pride Round carries the key message that soccer is an accepting, welcoming place for lesbians and all queer women, a place where homophobia will not be tolerated. While promoting, in a vibrant way, that the Mudgeeraba Soccer Club – and more broadly soccer in Queensland – welcomes the LGBTQI+ community. As Pride Cup Australia says: “Pride Cup is changing sporting culture to make LGBTI+ people feel safe, welcome and accepted. When you change sport, you change communities.”
